Your home is your sanctuary, but after being under quarantine due to the pandemic for months, it’s understandable that you’re itching for a change. Well, you’re not alone because 76% of real estate agents who were surveyed for HomeLight’s Q3 2020 survey said they’re seeing more homeowners roll up their sleeves and dive into a remodeling project or two.
Here are a couple of features that are really popular right now.
Gym and sauna
All around the country, gyms and saunas have had to close their doors for quite a while. As a result of this, people have decided to take matters into their own hands and created home gyms and even a sauna!
Almost half of the surveyed agents (51% to be exact) shared that their clients have installed a gym somewhere in their home and 42% said clients have created a home sauna. These projects add value to your home, which is always nice!
Outdoor space
On beautiful days, it’s completely understandable that folks want to spend as much time in the sun as they can - especially when they’re tired of being cooped up inside. Because of this, 20% of agents have agents who are interested in finding homes with a patio, deck, or other alfresco dining areas for entertaining.
If you already have one of these spaces, now’s the time to spruce them up by re-staining the deck, power washing the dirt and grime, and even planting a few flowers!
Multi-generational suites
Whether you’re taking care of loved ones or you want guests to have a private space they can call their own, an in-law suite is a great investment. In fact, 26% of agents are saying their clients are investing in these additions or they’re looking for homes with them.
An in-law suite usually consists of a bedroom and bathroom, but some are like studio apartments and feature a kitchenette and a living area.
In-ground pool
Most people like to spend their summers at the beach or going to the public pool to cool off. However, the pandemic has made this nearly impossible. That’s why about 51% of agents are saying their clients are installing in-ground swimming pools, or shopping for a home with one already built.
If you’re a waterbug, you may want to consider this project, especially because it’ll add a great deal to your property’s value when you decide to list it!
